I'll get straight to the point...almost everyone knows someone who has experienced a heart attack, a stroke, cancer, or another life altering ailment. To name a few from my own circle:
These are all loving and loved parts of our circle of friends and family.
Why am I running? I'm currently training to run 3 events (50/10/5 km) totalling 65 km over the Father's Day weekend at Mont-Tremblant this June. Trail and obstacle course runs at this venue are particularly challenging due to the ruggedness of the terrain and the few thousand metres of elevation gain over the course of the event. Sure I'll feel good after, but I want this activity to mean more. I feel rather selfish spending money on these events as the only beneficiary. The venue is gorgeous, and that is all I need personally.
I'd like to make my efforts worth more than "just" mental and physical health recovery. I'd like to raise funds equivalent to the sum of my event expenses which is around $450 in accommodations, and about $300 in event fees. To this end, if you would like to support campaigns that mean a lot to me, you can choose from one of these below. If none of those suit your fancy, please choose your own and send me a note at donate@65k.ca so I can update a total here. I believe all campaigns offer a charitable receipt for donations above $20 or so (if it matter please confirm yourself or ask me to find references if you need assistance).

I have my own story, but these campaigns aren't about me. I don't run for a certain pace and I'm happy to chat if you say "hi". We can also just smile and wave at each other as we pass. Most days you see me, I 'm doing 3-4 laps "around the tracks" and each lap is 3 km. On longer days I do up to a half marathon which is 7 laps. For an even longer run, I'll head up Cedarview towards Bayshore, head east a bit, and return to Barrhaven via Greenbank or Woodroffe.
I complete my shorter runs (<12 km) with my dog as I cherish my time with her. I usually have cookies with me, and on warmer days a dedicated bottle of water for her. She's well behaved, but can get excited. She would love to meet you and your dog. I love encouraging hesitant children to meet face to face as she loves a good ear scratch or pet, though she might try to lick hands and faces.
May 29 update: the map is out for my Mont-Tremblant run!
